Custom Desiccant Breather Operation:
We have developed a Custom Desiccant Breather (reusable / refillable) that is more environment friendly by reducing plastic usage. You will no longer need to throw away the breather housing. Breathers work by passing air from the bottom of the breather through a small micron filter material of ~10 microns. The air, which may have moisture, passes through the Orange Silica Gel Desiccant where moisture will be absorbed into the gel desiccant. The orange desiccant will begin changing colors the more it becomes saturated, to indicate to you when the desiccant needs to be changed.
An additional layer of filter material is on top of the desiccant bed to capture any additional dust. Clean dry air then passes down a center tube into the equipment component air space. This air flow pattern is effective. If the desiccant becomes completely saturated, moisture will drain to the outside and not into your equipment or reservoir.
Why is this breather more environmentally friendly? Simple, our breather is refillable.
The exhausted breather can be taken to a clean area, the top can be removed and exhausted desiccant properly disposed of. A new vacuum sealed refill bag of desiccant opened and used to refill the breather for another use. Our vacuum sealed refill packs will offer significant savings compared against the purchase of a new breather.
Sizing the units can be customized to fit your needs. Our Standard Breathers are numbered by the ounces of Orange Silica Gel in each unit. We will offer a few standard sizes of 10, 15, & 20 ounces. We can also build units of any size for any application upon request.
The standard models have a 3” diameter clear Polycarbonate tube that gets longer as the ounces increase. But the cost does not increase drastically, typically less than $10.00 per size increase. Other models that can be 4” to 6” in diameter can be built and purchased. Smaller sizes for site glasses / other small equipment will also be available.
Typical Applications of Desiccant Breathers:
- Vent opening in drums of lubricant or some mild chemicals
- Vent ports on totes
