Desiccant Breather Use and Benefits

Desiccant Breather Reusable – Operation:

We have developed a Custom Desiccant Breather (reusable / refillable) that is more environment friendly by reducing plastic usage.  You will no longer need to throw away the breather housing.  Breathers work by passing air from the bottom of the breather through a small micron filter material of ~10 microns.   The air, which may have moisture, passes through the Orange Silica Gel Desiccant where moisture will be absorbed into the gel desiccant.  The orange desiccant will begin changing colors the more it becomes saturated, to indicate to you when the desiccant needs to be changed.

An additional layer of filter material is on top of the desiccant bed to capture any additional dust.  Clean dry air then passes down a center tube into the equipment component air space.  This air flow pattern is effective.  If the desiccant becomes completely saturated, moisture will drain to the outside and not into your equipment or reservoir.

Why is this breather more environmentally friendly?  Simple, our breather is refillable.

The exhausted breather can be taken to a clean area, the top can be removed and exhausted desiccant properly disposed of.  A new vacuum sealed refill bag of desiccant opened and used to refill the breather for another use.  Our vacuum sealed refill packs will offer significant savings compared against the purchase of a new breather.

Typical Applications of Desiccant Breathers:

  • Vent opening in drums of lubricant or some mild chemicals
  • Vent ports on totes
  • Fill port or vent opening on hydraulic reservoirs
  • Fill port or vent opening on gear reducers
  • Pump oil housing
  • Lube storage containers
  • Transformers fitted with vent ports

Typical Industries that Utilize Desiccant Breathers:

  • Manufacturing facilities
  • Refineries
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Power plants
  • Mining operations on equipment and storage
  • Lube storage facilities
  • Wind Turbine Gearboxes
